Barracudas breeze past Woodson in season opener

Louisburg’s Casey Carpenter-Ross swims the freestyle Saturday during the Barracudas’ home opener against Woodson. Carpenter-Ross won five events to help lead the Barracudas to an easy win over Woodson.

The last time the Louisburg Barracudas lost a swim meet was in 2009, and after Saturday’s season opener, that streak is still intact.

Louisburg hosted the Woodson Sharks out of Raytown, Mo., at the Louisburg Aquatic Center and the Barracudas coasted to a 354-145 victory. It was a good start for the Barracudas as they begin their quest for a 10th consecutive South Suburban Swim League championship.

The Barracudas had a pair of swimmers who garnered five first place ribbons Saturday and three more that ended with four top finishes.

Madelyn Prettyman (15-and-over girls) and Casey Carpenter-Ross (9-10 boys) each won five events on the day, while Ella Dischinger (9-10 girls), Emma Prettyman (13-14 girls) and Remington Rice (13-14 boys) captured four first-place ribbons.

Madelyn won the 50-meter butterfly in 30.39 seconds, the 50 backstroke in 32.61 and the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes and 35.96 seconds. Kadisyn Kircher, Kaitlyn Lewer and Isabelle Holtzen joined Madelyn to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:22.70 and the 200 freestyle relay in 2:13.

Carpenter-Ross also won three individual races as he took first in the 50 freestyle (39.40), 50 backstroke (45.91) and 100 individual medley (1:41). He also teamed up with Conor Aadland, Andrew Jamison and Colin Brown to win the 100 medley relay (1:28) and 100 freestyle relay (1:20).

Dischinger joined Ella Bockelman, Cricket McIntire and Jesse Faulkner to win the 100 medley relay (1:35) for the 9-10 girls and later teamed up with Bockelman, McIntire and Shylah Dowell to win the 100 freestyle relay (1:25). Dischinger also won the 50 freestyle (39.61) and 100 individual medley (1:55).

Ella Dischinger swims the breaststroke Saturday in the Barracudas’ home opener and won four events in the 9-10 girls division.

Emma Prettyman captured three individual titles in the 50 freestyle (33.40), 50 butterfly (36.81) and 200 individual medley (3:18) to lead the 13-14 girls. Dana Mattison, Delanie Tally and Mable Graham later joined Emma to win the 200 freestyle relay (2:36).

On the boys side, Rice led the 13-14 boys as he won the 50 freestyle (28.77) and 50 backstroke (38.66). Rice also teamed up with Cole Brown, Drake Burdine and Cooper Hipp to win the 200 medley relay (2:40) and 200 freestyle relay (2:19).

Louisburg will try and make it two wins in a row this Saturday when it hosts the Golden Valley Swim Club from Clinton, Mo.
