EUDORA – The Louisburg Middle School track and field teams hit the road Tuesday when they ventured for a triangular meet with Spring Hill, and for the first time all season, the Wildcats didn’t break a school record.

That didn’t mean Louisburg didn’t have success, however.

Between the four teams in the two grade levels, Louisburg won 17 events, including five each from the eighth-grade boys and seventh-grade girls teams that racked up a lot of points on the track.

Eighth-grader Blue Caplinger won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes and 30 seconds, and would place in two other events. Teammate Asah LaHue also placed in three events and won the 1,600-meter run in 5:32.

Chris Williams ran down the competition to capture the 200-meter dash title in 26.7 seconds and fellow eighth-grader Jon Ventre breezed to the 400 dash crown in 58.1 seconds. The Wildcats also won a field event as Ian Combs won the pole vault for the fourth-straight time after he cleared 9 feet, 6 inches.

The seventh-grade girls won four events from four different athletes.

Mackenzie Scholtz won the 200-meter dash for the third week in a row as she ran a time of 28.36 seconds. Also on the track, Trinity Moore won the 1,600-meter run for the fourth time this season in 5:55. The 4×200 relay team also crossed the finish line first in 2:05.

In the field events, Kody Lowry finished first in the discus with a throw of 69-6 and Haley Cain won the jump after she cleared 4-2.

As for the eighth-grade girls, the Lady Cats picked up two wins on the track.

Trinity Buchanan captured the 200-meter dash title in 30.15 seconds and Shaylor Whitham won the 800-meter run in 2:47. The 4×100 relay also took gold in 58.3 seconds.
