In its final week of competition before the postseason, the Louisburg golf team added a pair of good performances on its resume.

The Wildcats finished in a tie for third in both the Anderson County and Prairie View Invitationals as they try to make adjustments before the regional tournament this Monday.

“To finish in a tie for third in both tournaments, I thought they played well,” Louisburg coach Brian Burns said. “However, we were still about 10 strokes above our best, which we will need to come close to qualifying as a team for state.”

Louisburg competed in the Prairie View Invitational on Thursday at Deer Trace Golf Course and tied Iola for third place with a 339. Santa Fe Trail won the tournament with a 327 and Spring Hill was second with a 334.

Sophomore Derek Frederick led the Wildcats with a 79 and medaled fourth overall. Another sophomore, Matt Stohs, also earned a medal with an 85 as he finished in a tie for 10th with an 85.

Louisburg junior Garrison Bloustine chips onto the green last Tuesday at Anderson County.

Senior Cole Mynsted also put together a solid round as he took 15th with an 86, while junior Garrison Bloustine was right behind him in 19th with an 89.

The Wildcats also finished in a tie for third at Anderson County last Tuesday at the Garnett Country Club course, but ended up in fourth based on the playoff hole.

Stohs had a big tournament as he earned a sixth place medal, while Frederick finished in 10th.

Louisburg will now gear up for the postseason as the Wildcats will travel to Chanute on Monday for the Class 4A regional tournament. Tee time is set for 9 a.m. and will be held on the Stone Creek Golf Course.

Teams that will join Louisburg in the regional are Baldwin, Chanute, Eudora, Fort Scott, Ottawa, Paola, Parsons and Bishop Miege.
