Louisburg Cross Country Ready to Hit the Ground Running

The Louisburg Cross Country Team is coming off an outstanding season sending multiple people to state last year.

The expectations will be more of the same.

The team has been hard at work to prepare for its upcoming season. The numbers are great as well, as they have 14 boys and 8 girls out. The returners are special as well, as 6 of the 8 girls were state qualifiers last year. On the boys side, 2 of those boys were also state qualifiers last year.

“We are looking to our state qualifiers to continue to lead the team and set the expectation to return both teams to the state meet and improve upon our finish from last year,” head coach John Reese said.

The cross country team has a great opportunity to compete again, as everyone who competed last year is returning. “The goal for our team this year is to be busy on Halloween,” Reece said, referring to the state meet, which takes place on October 31st.

They will also be joined by new assistant coach Hayden Mersman. “He brings experience to the program,” Reece said, “and is an awesome addition to the team.”

The first meet is at Anderson County on September 3rd. The seniors competing this season are Truman Ellison, Spencer Mattison, Talen McMurray, Lucy Vallejo, and Val Prothro.

With experience returning across both teams, Louisburg cross country hopes to make another trip to the state meet. As Reece put it, the goal is simple: “to be busy on Halloween.”
