Girl’s Golf Shines in Inaugural Season

Before this year, girl’s golf didn’t get the representation they received before. Now, they are making a name for themselves in their inaugural season.
This year, thanks to being co-op with Osawatomie, the girls finally have their own season this fall. There are three Louisburg girls playing golf this year: junior Reese Smith, sophomore Caitlin George, and freshman Adilynn Glasscock.
Junior Reese Smith has started her season off strong with six top five finishes. In three of those places she finished second and in two tournaments she finished on top, placing first in the Basehor Linwood Invitational and the West Franklin Varsity Girls Golf tournament. Smith was the only girls golfer last season in which she golfed with the boys golf team.
“I am very excited about this season, especially getting to play against some of the best girl golfers in Kansas,” said Smith. “I hope to improve my short game and approach shots, that way I can continue to improve my scores.”
Sophomore Caitlin George and freshman Adilynn Glasscock have been playing well in their first season. George, and Glasscock hope to keep improving their skills as the season goes on.
“I would like to improve my putting and chipping,” said George. “I am looking to improve my score, from my first varsity 18 to my most recent I have shaved off 20 strokes, and hope to continue to grow,” said Glasscock.

Playing golf may not be as physical as other sports but still comes with its challenges. Playing 18 holes can be long and hard, especially when a golfer is playing in a slump.
“My hardest challenge playing golf has been sticking with it, especially after a bad round. It is very hard when you feel discouraged and stuck, but coming back from that is one of the best feelings,” said Smith.
The Louisburg Wildcats girls golf team is hopeful for the future of the golf team. With only three players, the team is hoping that more girls go out next year to play. If there are four girls who go out for girls golf next year, Louisburg will be able to have its own team; the girls would no longer have to be co-op with Osawatomie.
“My hopes for the future of Louisburg girls golf is that the program continues to grow and improve. I hope that more girls join and we can medal as a team in more events,” said Smith.
“I hope the Louisburg Girls Golf program can expand in the next few years so we can compete as a team at every tournament,” said George.
“My hopes for Louisburg golf is that more girls join the team,” said Glasscock.
