Soccer Continues Their Hot Streak

The Wildcats came into the week 5-2-1 with two tough opponents on their schedule being Ottawa and Chanute.
Louisburg had a strong week of play, rallying in the second half to beat Chanute 3-2 on Tuesday, then defeating their Frontier League opponent, Ottawa 1-0 on Friday.
At home on Tuesday, the Wildcats played the Blue Comets where they battled through a tough first half where they fell behind 2-1, the goal being scored by Ryder Erickson. Although they were down, Louisburg never lost confidence, and another goal by Erickson in the second half and a goal scored by Carter Schneider gave them the lead and momentum they needed to close out the game winning 3-2.

“One of the biggest shifts in momentum was halftime,” head coach Dawson Schoning said. “It was a real wake up call for the team and it was necessary if we were going to be able to get back into the game and win.”
One of the things Schoning has pointed out in previous interviews is the players mindset and that was continued versus Chanute. “Our mindset was good but could have been better in the first half,” Schoning said. “I think our mindset in the second half was very strong and this was shown with how we played and how we were able to pull out a win from nothing.
In the Wildcats’ Frontier League matchup on Friday they were strong defensively versus Ottawa and continued their strong play to improve to 6-2-1.
“I would say the whole team really stood out. It took the whole team to pull off a win against a strong Ottawa side,” said Schoning. “The plan was executed to perfection. We had to be really strong in the air and we had to push the tempo of the game which I thought we did really well. Also, at the very end of the game when they put on a lot of pressure the team did well to keep them out of the goal.”
Against Ottawa, Louisburg saw their only goal from Erickson which with the Wildcats’ strong defensive performance was enough to secure the win.
This week, Louisburg travels to Parsons and plays Tonganoxie at home, trying to bring their record on the season to 8-2-1.
The team is still improving every week and looks to keep making those improvements, “We need to be able to score a little easier,” Schoning emphasized. “We are getting into good areas but are not able to put the ball in the back of the net. I think we are getting close and we are excited for when it clicks together.”

The Louisburg Boys Soccer team had an outstanding week of matches. They faced Parsons High School on Monday, winning 6-2. On Thursday, the Wildcats went up against Tonganoxie High School, securing another win, 2-1. As a regional championship is still the end goal for Louisburg soccer, the Wildcats are staying motivated.
Louisburg Soccer is always preparing for what’s next, both as a team and individually. Players are able to focus on themselves, and worry about how to make themselves better, rather than worrying about what other teams are doing. “It is important that the boys stay focused as to what they can do for the team to help us get to where we want to be when playoffs roll around,” Schoning said.
While as a team, Louisburg has improved throughout the season, two young players stand out.“Grant Basore has really improved his game in all aspects, and is really giving us a lot of solid minutes these last few games…Mason Hull has really started to improve and is really starting to see the whole picture which is important for us to be successful,” Schoning said.
As week 6 for the Wildcats approaches, they are preparing the same way they always have. Through technical work, competitive games, and reviewment of film, Louisburg will be ready for the upcoming week.
“The biggest key to getting a result for every game this week is just playing our game. We have to play with our level of intensity and toughness,” Schoning said.
