Louisburg Soccer Secures Regional Title, Falls to Miege

The Louisburg boys soccer team had a stellar first week in the postseason, but running up against Bishop Miege ended the Wildcats season earlier than they wanted.
The Wildcats had an impressive game on Tuesday against Kansas City Christian, winning 8-0. Ryder Erickson had an impressive hat trick, Mason Hull with 2 goals, and Brody Bovaird, Brayden Stringfield, and Parker Powers all adding one each. On Thursday, the Wildcats faced Ottawa High School. They ended 1-1, Brody Bovaird with the goal. But, Louisburg pulled through in a PK shootout, securing them the win, and the regional title.

While the Wildcats have proved to be technical and well-rounded players, the relationships they have built off the field have proved to be just as important as drills and practice. Without the relationships players have built the past few months, Louisburg wouldn’t have been capable of making it this far in the postseason. Players are able to motivate each other, and strive for greatness together.
“Their relationship with one another has made it really easy to get them to work for each other,” head coach Dawson Schoning said. “That is a very important aspect to any of the success we have had this year.”
Chemistry on the field is evident to coaches, but it impacts players in a powerful way. Many players agree that the trust and relationships they have with each other has led them to a successful season. “I’ve learned that trusting my teammates and the plans we have to win have led to a great season so far,” senior Fritz Meyer said.
This week, the Wildcats work to stay grounded after two exciting wins for the team. Louisburg boys soccer hadn’t won a regional title since 2020, so the win was a big moment for the program. A regional title for the team demonstrates how much passion and dedication players have for the sport.

“They have to be the ones that work hard to get that next victory to continue to play into the postseason,” Schoning said.
On Monday, the Wildcats took on their third postseason game against Bishop Miege High School. Louisburg gave a good fight, but ultimately ended their postseason run, losing 8-0. The Wildcats gave a standout performance this year, showing immense improvement from years past. They end their season with a 12-5-1 record.
