Barracudas defeat Clinton in season opener
- Updated: June 14, 2017

Emma Prettyman won five events for the Louisburg Barracudas last Saturday in Clinton, Mo., as the Barracudas defeated Golden Valley 276-187 in their season opener.
CLINTON, Mo. – It may be a different year, but it was the same result for the Louisburg Barracuda swim team Saturday in Clinton, Mo.
Louisburg defeated the Golden Valley Swim Club, 276-187, in its season opener and continued its dominance of the South Suburban Swim League. The Barracudas haven’t lost a regular season meet since 2009, along with winning eight consecutive league titles.
The Barracudas had three swimmers win five first-place ribbons and two more that earned four first-place honors as well.
Avery Graham (15-and-over) and Emma Prettyman (11-12) led the girls side with five victories and Remington Rice (13-14) was the lone boy to have a perfect day. Ashley Branine (9-10) and Claire Brown (11-12) each won four events.
Graham won three individual races, including the 50-meter freestyle in 33.84 seconds, the 50 butterfly in 35.69 and 50 backstroke in 42.34.
She also got some help in her two relay events. Graham joined Anna Danciak, Kaitlyn Lewer and Melia Rice to win the 200-meter medley relay in 3 minutes and 1 second and the same team ended the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay in 2:39.
Prettyman did much of the same in the 11-12 girls division. Prettyman won the 50 freestyle (36.90), 50 butterfly (38.53) and 200 individual medley (3:32).
In her relay events, Prettyman teamed up with Brown, Tehya Harvey and Abby Bradley to win the 200 freestyle relay (2:49) and 200 medley relay (3:05). Brown also won a pair of individual events of her own as she finished first in the 50 breaststroke (49.72) and 50 backstroke (45.74).
Rice also helped win a pair of relay races on the boys side. Rice joined Cole Brown, Jake Danciak and Drake Burdine to capture the 200 medley relay (3:41) and later teamed up with Cole, Burdine and William Goode to win the 200 freestyle relay (2:37).
In between those two races, Rice went on to finish first in the 50 freestyle (31.56), 50 butterfly (40.86) and 50 backstroke (47.43).
Branine also had a big day for the 9-10 girls as she took home four first-place ribbons. She won the 50 freestyle (42.62) and 50 breaststroke (57.78).
She later helped Jesse Faulkner, Hannah Farrington and Lola Dubas win the 100 medley relay (1:46) and joined Faulkner, Madeline Hughes and Janie Harth to win the 100 freestyle relay (1:51).
The Barracudas will have their home opener this Saturday when they host Harrisonville (Mo.).
