Barracudas capture seventh-straight title

BUTLER, Mo. – Winning never gets old, just ask any member of the Louisburg Barracuda swim team.

The Barracudas competed in the South Suburban Swim League meet Saturday in Butler, Mo., and there was never any drama.

Louisburg continued its dominance with its seventh-straight league crown as it tallied 648 points to win convincingly. Runner-up Woodson was the next closest at 466.

Along with the league crown, the Barracudas also had several individuals who came away with honors of their own. Sabra Brueggen (8-and-under girls), Emma Prettyman (9-10 girls), Sydney Keaton (11-12 girls), Madelyn Prettyman (13-14 girls) and Trae Johnsen (13-14 boys) all finished first in the high-point standings as the top swimmer in their age group.

Jay McCaskill (8-and-under boys), Brayton Brueggen (9-10 boys), Weston Guetterman (11-12 boys), Meagan Walker (15-and-over girls) and Alex Prettyman (15-and-over boys) took second in the high-point standings. Josiah McCaskill (8-and-under boys), Ashley Branine (8-and-under girls), Catie Lemke (9-10 girls) and Christopher Dallimore (15-and-over boys) came away with third-place honors.

Sabra Brueggen dominated her age division as she finished first in the 25-meter freestyle (18.15 seconds), 25 butterfly (20.41) and 100 individual medley (1 minute and 38 seconds). She also helped win two relays as she joined Ashley Branine, Hannah Farrington and Megan Quinn to take the 100 medley relay (1:52.44) and 100 freestyle relay (1:36.51).

Sydney Keaton did the same for the 11-12 girls. Keaton captured the 50 freestyle (33.09), 50 breaststroke (43.16) and 50 backstroke (39.57). She also helped Mable Graham, Sarah Minor and Alayna Baker to take the 200 medley relay (2:39) and 200 freestyle relay (2:23).

Madelyn Prettyman also had a big day for the Barracudas. Madelyn won the 50 butterfly (30.53), 50 backstroke (33.72) and 200 individual medley (2:39), but went on to finish second in both of her relays as she moved up to the 15-and-over division to fill an open spot.

Emma Prettyman won four events, including the 50 breaststroke (53.04) and 100 individual medley (1:39). Emma, along with Lemke, Claire Brown and Delanie Tally, won the 100 medley (1:28) and 100 freestyle (1:19) relays.

Johnsen was the lone male Barracuda to take first in the high point and won three individual races. He touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle (28.41), 50 backstroke (33.18) and 200 individual medley (2:44).
