Wildcat swimmers rack up state qualifying times to start season

Louisburg sophomore Colin Brown has earned three individual, and two relay state qualifying times in the past week.

Just a couple meets into the season, the Louisburg boys swimmers are already positioning themselves for what they hope is a special postseason.

The Wildcats have already racked up several state qualification times as junior Colton Prettyman, sophomores Colin Brown and Andrew Jamison, and freshman Noah Sharp have already cemented a spot for themselves at the state meet.

It all started on Dec. 6 when the Wildcats traveled to the Topeka-Hayden Invitational along with their Osawatomie, Paola and Spring Hill teammates. The team finished second overall and recorded several state qualifications.

Jamison won the 100-yard breaststroke in a personal best time of 1 minute and 3.70 seconds. He also qualified for state and took second in the 200 individual medley in another personal best time of 2:10.66.

As for Brown, a returning state medalist, he also qualified for state in two events. He won the 100 butterfly in a new personal best of 56.04 seconds and later took third in the 500 freestyle in 5:21, which was a personal record by more than 11 seconds.

Louisburg also qualified a pair of relays. Jamison, Brown, Prettyman and Sharp were second in the 200 medley relay in 1:48.

The same quartet also took second in the 200 freestyle relay in a state qualification time of 1:38. Osawatomie senior Luke Hebert also earned a spot at state as he was second in the 100 butterfly in 59 seconds.

Junior Colton Prettyman has earned a pair of state consideration times to start the season.

Prettyman also had a strong meet as he earned a state consideration time in the 100 freestyle after he took fourth with a personal best time of 53.85 seconds.

The Miami County team then hosted its home invitational Monday at the OZone in Osawatomie. It ran away with a first place finish with 325 points in the 8-team meet.

Brown posted another state qualifying time, the newest one coming in the 200 individual medley in 2:10.51, which is a personal best time.

Prettyman, who finished in second in the 200 IM, also posted a state consideration time in the event and in the 100 freestyle, where he took first in 53.21.

Brown also won the 100 breaststroke and posted a state consideration time. Jamison won both the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle and Jamison posted a state consideration time in the 100 butterfly.

Brown, Jamison, Hebert and Prettyman finished first in both the 200 medley and freestyle relays. Louisburg’s Noah Sharp and Brock Delmez, also joined Dylan Mabe and Landon Terflinger, to take second in the 400 freestyle relay.

Wildcat wrestling goes undefeated to win December Duals

Louisburg junior Mika McKitrick works for a pin Friday during a match in the December Duals at Baldwin. McKitrick was one of six Wildcats named to the All-Tournament Team.

BALDWIN CITY — Louisburg has lived well in the dual format so far in the young season and that continued Friday in Baldwin.

The Wildcats finished with a 4-0 record and won the December Duals as they pulled out a couple close wins in the process.

Louisburg earned victories over Prairie View, Baldwin, Independence and Burlington as the Wildcats earned top honors.

“We went in there and had two very gutsy wins — one against Baldwin and one against Independence,” Louisburg coach Bobby Bovaird said. “Earlier this year, Baldwin was ranked in the top 10 at state, and Independence is currently ranked fourth in 4A. We’ve got depth and experience on our varsity roster, and the guys are starting to see how that pays off.”

That depth also showed as the Wildcats earned six spots on the December Duals All-Tournament Team.

Logan Henry (132 pounds, 4-0 record), Mika McKitrick (138, 3-1), Jay McCaskill (157, 3-1), Bryce Thompson (165, 3-1), Elias Pugh (175, 3-1) and Ashton Moore (190, 3-1) were all named to the All-Tournament Team.

Louisburg junior Ashton Moore went 3-1 at 190 pounds Friday in Baldwin.

The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 75-6 victory over Prairie View and then found themselves in a close contest against Baldwin. In that match, Louisburg did the work in the lower and middle weights as the Wildcats built the lead and held on for a 40-33 win, despite losing the final three matches.

“We’ve talked about bonus points — winning by a major decision instead of just a regular decision, fighting off your back to avoid a pin, etc,” Bovaird said. “The mindset has to be that no one outworks us and we never give up.”

Louisburg found itself in another close matchup against Independence as the Wildcats had to rally from an early deficit.

The Wildcats got three straight pins from Thompson, Pugh and Moore. Then Brayden Yoder pulled out a big 3-2 decision at 215 pounds to help secure the win.

Louisburg ended the night with a 72-9 victory over Burlington to secure the tournament title.

Louisburg junior Logan Henry went 4-0 and recorded four pins at 132 pounds Friday in the December Duals.

A lot of Wildcats found success in Baldwin, but Henry was the lone Wildcat with a 4-0 record and all were by pin at 132 pounds.

Canaan Clayton (113 pounds), Will Showalter (120), J’Lee Collins (126), McKitrick (138), Traden Noll (150), McCaskill, Thompson, Pugh, Moore and Yoder (215) all finished with a 3-1 record on the night.

A pair of Louisburg girls also saw their first action of the season at the Saturday edition of the December Duals. Freshman Leola Eslinger went 3-0 at 145 pounds and freshman Allison Martin lost her lone match at 125 pounds.

“Both girls competed really well, and I’m excited to see how they continue to improve each week,” Bovaird said. “We’re working to add more and more competition opportunities for them this season to get them ready for regionals in February.”

After a runner-up finish at Fort Scott the week before, the Wildcats will try and continue that momentum this week as they host Olathe West in a dual Thursday before traveling to Tonganoxie on Saturday for their final tournament of 2023.

Week 2 Athlete of the Week: Andrew Jamison

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week two of the winter sports season, sponsored by Landmark National Bank.

ANDREW JAMISON, SOPHOMORE, SWIMMING

Louisburg sophomore Andrew Jamison had an impressive start to his swim season on Dec. 6 at the Topeka-Hayden Invitational. Jamison earned state qualification times in four events, including two relays. He won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute and 3.70 seconds, which was a personal best time.

Jamison continued his success in the 200 individual medley as he took second with a personal best time of 2:10.66. Jamison also joined Colin Brown, Colton Prettyman and Noah Sharp to earn state qualification times in both the 200 medley and freestyle relays. The Wildcats finished runner-up in both events.

The athlete of the week award is announced every Wednesday morning during the winter season and the winner is selected by Louisburg Sports Zone with the help of nominations from coaches.

Lady Cats battle but come up short in home loss to Anderson County

Louisburg junior Sami Lane pressures an Anderson County player into a turnover Friday at home. The Lady Cats fell to the Bulldogs, 35-31.

It ended up being another close loss for the Louisburg girls basketball team Friday against Anderson County, but the progress was there for the Lady Cats.

Anderson County had a size advantage, played a zone defense and both were obstacles for Louisburg. Still, the Lady Cats found themselves in a tight game with the Bulldogs.

Although it ended with a 35-31 Louisburg loss, there were definite positives to build on.

“I thought overall we played hard and we battled till the end,” Louisburg coach Adrianne Lane said. “I do feel like we got better Friday. Our defense was great and we got some really good looks at the basket.”

Louisburg had to deal with Anderson County’s size underneath the basket, including that of Kylie Disbrow and Caitlyn Foltz. The Lady Cats held them to 13 and nine points, respectively.

They also held Anderson County to just 28 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers.

“I thought defensively we did great,” Lane said./ “Any time you can hold a team to 35 points is great. Our key was to double team (Foltz and Disbrow) when they caught the ball and the girls did a great job with this. Our rebounding was also big, we did a great job being physical and going and getting the ball.”

Offensively, the Lady Cats had to find a way to get going against the Anderson County 2-3 zone. Louisburg showed patience, and got good looks at times, but couldn’t get the shots to fall.

Louisburg shot 21 percent from the field, but did pull down 15 offensive rebounds in order to get extra chances.

Louisburg junior Shylar Whiting goes up for a shot Friday against Anderson County.

“The girls did a good job running the offense and getting into the middle of the zone,” Lane said. “We wanted to make their girls work hard on defense so they would be tired on offense. I felt we were getting great shots of the offense, we just couldn’t get enough to fall.”

The Lady Cats took a 19-18 lead at halftime thanks to a 3-pointer from Ashlyn Kuhlman and a bucket from Zyleigh Melton late in the second quarter.

Anderson County built another lead in the second half, but the Lady Cats cut into the Bulldog lead again as Shylar Whiting hit a 3-pointer and knocked in a free throw late in the fourth to cut deficit to two.

It would be as close as the Lady Cats would get as the Bulldogs knocked down enough free throws to seal the win.

Kuhlman led Louisburg in scoring with 10 points to go along with a team-high five rebounds and three steals. Junior Sami Lane scored seven, all in the first quarter, to help get the Lady Cats get out to a good start. She also finished with four rebounds.

Melton and Whiting each finished with five points and junior Sabra Brueggen added four points. Junior Ally Brown also tallied a team-high five rebounds and two assists.

Louisburg will try and pick up its first win today as the Lady Cats travel to Baldwin. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

LOU 11 8 4 8 — 31

AC 14 4 8 9 — 35

LOUISBURG (0-3): Ashlyn Kuhlman 3-14 2-2 10; Sami Lane 3-12 0-0 7; Shylar Whiting 1-5 2-6 5; Zyleigh Melton 2-2 0-1 5; Sabra Brueggen 2-10 0-2 4. Totals: 11-52 4-11 31. 3-point field goals: 5, (Kuhlman 2, Melton, Whiting, Lane)

Wildcat use big second quarter to pull away from Anderson County

Louisburg junior Nathan Parker pulls up for a shot Friday at home against Anderson County. Parker led the Wildcats in scoring with 10 points.

Just a couple days after its first loss of the season, Louisburg had a chance to quickly make amends Friday when it hosted Anderson County.

The Wildcats used a big second quarter to do just that.

Louisburg scored 18 points in the frame, which led to a big halftime lead and the Wildcats were able to hold on for a 44-37 victory over the Bulldogs.

Still down a couple players who were out with an injury, the Wildcats (2-1) made the best of a bad situation

“With the injuries that we have had, we are doing well so far,” Louisburg coach Ben Doll said. “I think once we get everyone healthy, I think we are going to be in pretty good shape. We have to get a lot better at things. We are playing some odd lineups, and we have some young guys in there right now that haven’t played varsity before. But it was good to see us bounce back from Tuesday’s loss.”

Louisburg took a 10-6 lead after one quarter of play, but the offense started to click in the second. The Wildcats outscored Anderson County 18-6 and took a 28-12 lead at halftime.

The lead ballooned to 20 early in the third quarter, before Anderson County started to chip away.

Anderson County deployed a zone defense to try and slow down the Wildcats — and while it worked early — Louisburg found a lot of success against it in the second quarter.

“We needed to do that, just for our confidence a little bit,” Doll said. “We struggled against a 1-3-1 earlier in the year, and then when they went zone, we started to play a little fast. However, once we started to calm down, things got better. Teams are going to see on film that we struggle with zone, so it was good to see our guys have success against it.”

The Wildcats got production from up and down their lineup as seven different players scored. Senior Nathan Parker led the way with 10 points and senior Brock Vohs added nine.

Conlee Hovey goes up for a basket Friday against Anderson County. Hovey finished with a team-high 11 rebounds.

Louisburg also dominated in the rebounding department. Junior Conlee Hovey had a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with seven points, while junior Gavin Lohse had 10 rebounds — 8 offensive — and eight points.

Senior Jaymes Melton also came off the bench to pull down five rebounds.

Sophomore Derek Frederick played his first varsity minutes as he came off the bench to help the Wildcats on the perimeter. He also knocked down a 3-pointer.

Senior Brady Hickey also contributed a lot of minutes at the point and had a team-high three steals to go along with four rebounds and four points.

“We did some good stuff for a while, but we are just struggling right now in taking care of the basketball against certain kinds of pressure,” Doll said. “We are trying to play a little too fast. However, not having two perimeter guys all week certainly hasn’t helped. Still, we have had some other guys step up in Derek Frederick and we asked him to play some heavy minutes in there, especially on defense.

“Brady has been a steady point guard since those other guys have been gone. We did some good things. We scored well at times, got a lot of rebounds and I was happy that a lot of our bigger guys like Conlee, Gavin, Jaymes and Brock were hitting the boards hard.”

Anderson County tried to make things interesting late as the Bulldogs outscored Louisburg 25-16 in the second half, but the Wildcats held on for their second win of the year.

“I think the guys were pretty tuned in to the game, but I don’t think we did a good job of valuing the ball very much,” Doll said. “When we’re sloppy, I don’t think it was a lack of focus or anything, I think we were just trying to do too much.”

Louisburg will have its toughest test of the season Tuesday when it travels to state-ranked Baldwin. The Bulldogs, who are 3-0 to start the year, are currently ranked No. 7 in Class 4A.

Short-handed Wildcats fall to Burlington in first road game

Louisburg senior Brady Hickey pulls up for a shot Tuesday at Burlington. Hickey scored a team-high 12 points in the Wildcats’ 63-51 loss.

BURLINGTON — Before Louisburg tipped off with Burlington on Tuesday, the Wildcats were faced with a little bit of adversity.

Louisburg found itself down a starter and a main player off the bench, and the Wildcats found themselves a little short-handed for their first road tilt of the season.

Not being at full strength, and some foul trouble, hurt the Wildcats as they fell, 63-51, to Burlington.

“We missed two of our ball handlers and that was evident, especially when we got into foul trouble when they were pressuring us,” Louisburg coach Ben Doll said. “Our biggest thing was we just didn’t play a very tough style of basketball when there were 50-50 balls or rebounds that we needed to get. We had plenty of moments where we got it to 10 or under, but then they would get a bucket and we can’t win that way.”

In the absence of Luke Hill and Myles Vohs, who were out with an injury and illness, a pair of Louisburg seniors stepped up. Brady Hickey and Brock Vohs played all 32 minutes and were scoring options for the Wildcats.

Hickey finished with a team-high 12 points and Vohs added 11 points to go along with six rebounds.

“Brady did a good job and I don’t think he ever came out of the game and I don’t think Brock did either,” Doll said. “We used some timeouts to try and get them a break, but there was never a moment where they were gassing and saying they needed to come out. That was awesome to see and they played tough. Once we are at full strength, it will be fun to see how good those guys can be when they get a little bit of a break.”

Louisburg senior Jaymes Melton gathers in a loose ball Tuesday at Burlington.

Burlington started out strong offensively as it scored 21 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Louisburg found itself down 34-22 at halftime.

The Wildcats tried to make a couple different runs in the second half, as it trimmed the Burlington lead to under 10, but Burlington had an answer on every occasion.

Burlington’s Sage Fejfar scored 19 points to lead the Wildcats and was one of four players to score in double figures.

“Part of the problem that they gave us was they just hit open shots,” Doll said. “(Fejfar) was solid and we knew they were going to run stuff for him. But then when we focused on him, we lost track of a few of their others guys and they hit open jumpers. At this level, playing varsity basketball, that is something you should do. Our rotations weren’t good and a lot of things just hit us.”

For Louisburg, senior Nathan Parker just missed double figures in scoring as he finished with nine points, to go along with five rebounds and three assists.

Junior Conlee Hovey finished with seven points and seven rebounds, while junior Gavin Lohse registered a team-high nine rebounds.

Louisburg will try and bounce back tonight when it hosts Anderson County. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Louisburg girls get out to good start, but fall to Burlington

Louisburg junior Addy Stohs goes up for a basket during Tuesday’s road contest at Burlington. The Lady Cats fell 43-38.

BURLINGTON — For one quarter, anyway, the Louisburg girls basketball team had everything working.

It was the kind of start the Lady Cats were hoping for after a disappointing loss in its opener. Louisburg nearly had a double-digit lead on Burlington in the first quarter Tuesday, but couldn’t hang on.

Burlington eventually surpassed the Lady Cats and handed Louisburg a 43-38 setback.

“I thought our team saw a huge improvement from our first game,” Louisburg coach Adrianne Lane said. “They seemed to play more confident overall and I felt like they played more as a unit versus individuals.”

The Lady Cats jumped out to an 8-0 lead on back-to-back 3-pointers from Ashlyn Kuhlman and Ally Brown, and a basket by Shylar Whiting. Louisburg went up 11-2 after a 3-point play by Sabra Brueggen.

Burlington started to claw its way back, but the Lady Cats still led 16-11 after the first quarter. Unfortunately for Louisburg, the offense didn’t carry over to the second.

The Lady Cats scored just two points in the second quarter and Burlington was able to tie the game at halftime.

“It was so important to get out and score early, more so for our confidence and team morale than anything,” Lane said. “It showed the girls that we can score.

“Only scoring two points in the second quarter hurt us. I felt like we stopped taking chances on defense, which led to a slow down on the offensive end of the court. We are best when we get out in transition. We need to continue to get out and run and try and catch the defense off guard.”

Louisburg junior Ally Brown drives to the basket Tuesday against Burlington.

The game was still tied at 27-all going into the fourth quarter, but Burlington took a four-point lead to start the final frame. A basket by Addy Stohs, a 3-pointer from Kuhlman and a running shot by Brown brought the Burlington lead back to one.

Junior Jillian Asher hit a free throw to tie the game at 35-all with 3 minutes left, but Burlington would end the game on a 8-3 run to seal the win.

Kuhlman led the Lady Cats in scoring with nine points and two blocked shots.

Stohs and Brown each finished with seven, including a team-high seven rebounds each. Stohs also added a team-high two blocks, while Brown and Asher each finished with a team-best three assists.

Sophomore Morgan Latham came off the bench for Louisburg and also tied for a team lead seven rebounds. Brueggen finished with six rebounds. Whiting and Sami Lane finished with five and four points, respectively.

The Lady Cats will try for that first win Friday when they host Anderson County. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Wildcats finish runner-up in season opener at Fort Scott

The Louisburg wrestling team finished second at the Fort Scott Dual Tournament last Friday as it posted a 4-1 record on the day.

FORT SCOTT — The Louisburg wrestling team had the showing it was hoping for Friday at the Fort Scott Dual Tournament.

Louisburg won its first four duals of the event, before falling to state-ranked Atchison County in the final one to finish as the tournament runner-up.

“It’s always nice to bring home some hardware from a tournament, especially when it’s a team plaque,” Louisburg coach Bobby Bovaird said. “The guys wrestled tough Friday night. Our one loss was against Effingham-Atchison County, and they’re ranked No. 5 in 321A as a team. We had some very gutsy individual wins, and that helped us hold off for wins against Blue Valley Southwest and Fort Scott.”

The Wildcats cruised to a 60-22 victory over Jayhawk-Linn to start the day and then followed it up with a 78-6 win over Anderson County. The matches got a little tougher after that.

Louisburg held on for a 39-34 victory over a talented Fort Scott program and then pulled out a 36-34 dual win over Blue Valley Southwest despite losing its final four matches.

Against Atchison County, Louisburg came up short with a 51-27 loss to the Tigers and finished the day with a 4-1 record.

The Wildcats also had to face a little adversity. Senior Colin Robinson, who wrestled at 150 pounds, suffered a broke nose early on, and Bovaird had to reshuffle his lineup.

Sophomore Tyson Blancarte, junior Mike McKitrick and senior Traden Noll all bumped up a weight class to make sure the Wildcats had a full lineup. It ended up being a big part of the Wildcats’ runner-up finish.

Junior Canaan Clayton led the Wildcats with a 5-0 record at 113 pounds, which included three pins. Junior Ashton Moore finished the day with a 4-1 record with three pins at 190 pounds, while freshman Levi Cotter was 4-1 with a pin at 106 pounds.

Junior Jay McCaskill found himself in a loaded weight class at 157 pounds and came out with a 3-2 record, all of his wins coming by pin. One of those pins came against Anderson County’s Masten Wright, who is ranked in the top five in state.

Freshman Bryce Thompson and sophomore Vance Hahn combined for a 5-1 record at 165 pounds and each had two pins.

Senior Elias Pugh (175 pounds), junior Brayden Yoder (215) and junior Will Showalter (120) each had 3-2 marks. Senior J’Lee Collins (132), freshman Spencer Mattison (126), junior Logan Henry (132/138) and junior Xander Lucas (285) each had a pair of wins.

“We’re fortunate this year to have Canaan join the team,” Bovaird said. “Coach (Shawn) Crossley and I have coached Canaan since he was in elementary school, but since he’s been homeschooled all that time, we’ve never had the chance to have him on the high school team. This year with KSHSAA’s rules modifications, he’s now able to be on the team, and he had a great day.

“Levi and Ashton both went 4-1 and wrestled really tough. Jay was in a beast of a weight with 4 state-ranked wrestlers. He lost tough matches to Fort Scott and Effingham, but was able to pin a ranked kid from Anderson County.”

With all the success the Wildcats experienced at Fort Scott, Bovaird is hoping that it will bleed over into the rest of the year.

“We’re very excited for this season,” Bovaird said. “There are more experienced wrestlers wearing the purple singlets than we’ve had in a long time, and these guys are tough and hard-working. I took extras in four weights, hoping to get them some varsity time. Logan Henry and Tyson Blancarte both stepped in and had some great wins for us — Logan against BVSW and Tyson against Fort Scott.

“Vance Hahn and Bryce Thompson both split time at 165 and were a combined 5-1 on the evening. Both are pushing each other on a daily basis in the practice room. Miles Meek has been rolling with Ashton, Brayden Yoder, and Xander Lucas at practices this season, but we weren’t able to get him connected with a match unfortunately.”

The Wildcats will try and continue their winning ways this Friday when they travel to Baldwin for the December Duals. They will square off with Prairie View, Baldwin, Independence and Burlington. Matches begin at 4:30 p.m.

Week 1 Athlete of the Week: Myles Vohs

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week one of the winter sports season, sponsored by Edward Jones-Craig Holtzen.

MYLES VOHS, JUNIOR, BASKETBALL

Louisburg junior Myles Vohs came up big for the Louisburg boys basketball team Friday in its season opener against Tonganoxie. The Wildcats scored only four points in the fourth quarter, but all four were big points from Vohs.

The biggest shot of the game came with 15 seconds left as Vohs hit a game-winner to give the Wildcats a 53-51 victory over Tonganoxie. Vohs was 4-for-4 from the field and had nine points on the night, including two steals.

The athlete of the week award is announced every Wednesday morning during the winter season and the winner is selected by Louisburg Sports Zone with the help of nominations from coaches.

Louisburg boys swim ready for another state run

Louisburg sophomore Andrew Jamison is one of three returning state qualifiers for the Wildcat boys swim team this season.

The Louisburg boys swim team put together its most memorable season last year and the Wildcats are hoping the 2023-24 campaign is just as unforgettable.

Louisburg qualified four swimmers for the state meet a year ago and competed in five events and put together its best season in its short history.

Sophomores Colin Brown, Andrew Jamison and junior Colton Prettyman all return from that group as they try to take an even bigger jump this season.

“We are seeing that our state returners are starting off the season with times practically identical to where they left off at the end of last season,” coach Mary Argeropoulos said. “This bodes extremely well for our development this year. We anticipate a strong return of individual swims to state competition this season.  Colin, Andrew, and Colton from Louisburg, along with Luke (Hebert) from Osawatomie and Landen (Terflinger) from Paola are stronger and faster than this time last year and we can’t wait to see them excel in the pool this season.”

As a freshman, Brown returned home with hardware from last year’s state meet as he medaled eighth in the 100-yard butterfly.

Brown and Jamison also competed in the consolation finals in individual races, and in a pair of relays with Prettyman.

Louisburg sophomore Colin Brown earned a state medal last season and is one of three returning state qualifiers for the Wildcats.

Louisburg currently has five swimmers out this season. Along with Prettyman, Brown and Jamison, freshmen Noah Sharp and Brock Delmez have joined the group.

During the regular season, Louisburg swims on a co-op team with Osawatomie and Paola. They have since added a new school to its program in Spring Hill.

“We are in the growing process for sure,” Argeropoulos said. “Seven Spring Hill swimmers have joined, Osawatomie added three new and Louisburg has two new freshmen as well. We are merging into one great team.”

Expectations are high this season for all of the swimmers and they got their season off to a good start Saturday at the Lansing Relays as they finished seventh in the team standings.

The 200 butterfly relay of Hebert, Dylan Mabe, Terflinger and Brown finished second, as did the 200 breaststroke relay of Prettyman, Mabe, Hebert and Jamison.

The 200 freestyle relay of Prettyman, Mabe, Terflinger and Brown took third and finished two seconds under the state qualification standard.

Brown, Jamison, Hebert and Colton Prettyman took third in the 200 medley relay and were nine seconds under the state qualification mark. Mabe, Terflinger, Hebert and Brown took third in the 4×100 medley.

“We have 18 swimmers out this season and practices have started well this year,” Argeropoulos said. “It’s great to see fuller lanes of swimmers and we are picking up quickly in intensity this season. There is definitely a feeling of excitement and anticipation in the pool this season.”

Louisburg will return to action Wednesday in Topeka.
