CHRIS WILLIAMS, BOYS SOCCER, SENIOR

 

Louisburg senior Chris Williams gave his team a big lift last Thursday when he scored the game-winning goal in double overtime of Louisburg’s 2-1 road win against Bonner Springs. The game-winner was Williams’ first goal of the season and he has helped the Wildcats to four straight victories since their season opening loss.

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week one of the fall sports season, sponsored by Midwest Collision.

BRAYDEN GAGE, FOOTBALL, SENIOR

 

Louisburg senior Brayden Gage came up big when the Wildcat football team needed him the most. Gage scored the go-ahead touchdown in Louisburg’s 21-17 win over Spring Hill and also recorded a game-saving interception in the game’s final minutes to stop a Spring Hill drive. Gage finished with 97 yards from scrimmage in the winning effort.

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week eight of the spring sports season, sponsored by Tri-County Termite and Pest Control.

CHRIS WILLIAMS, TRACK AND FIELD, JUNIOR

 

Louisburg junior Chris Williams tore up the track Friday during the Class 4A regional meet in Eudora. Williams won the 400-meter dash regional title in 50.8 seconds and later helped the 4×400-meter relay team of Justin Collins, Ben Wiedenmann and Blue Caplinger to a second place finish with a personal best time of 3:26.

MACKENZIE SCHOLTZ, GIRLS SOCCER, SOPHOMORE

 

Louisburg sophomore Mackenzie Scholtz put together a big performance for the Wildcat girls soccer team last week. Scholtz scored a career-high six goals and added an assist in an 11-1 win over Ottawa. Scholtz currently has 29 goals on the season for Louisburg and also has 12 assists.

KIEFER TUCKER, TRACK AND FIELD, JUNIOR

 

Louisburg junior Kiefer Tucker had a nice week on the track as won the discus competition Friday at the Redbud Classic in Wellsville. Tucker won with a throw of 138-8 and also set a personal record in the shot put with a toss of 41-9. Later in the day he, along with Michael Waldron, John DePriest and Austin Moore, won the thrower’s relay in a new meet record time of 47.83 seconds and are currently ranked third in the nation according to milesplit.com

MADDIE SVOBODA, SOFTBALL, JUNIOR

 

Louisburg junior Maddie Svoboda saw her bat come to life Thursday against Anderson County as she hit two home runs. Svoboda finished the doubleheader with four hits, two home runs, a double, five runs scored and 4 RBIs. On the week, Svoboda totaled seven hits between doubleheaders with De Soto and Anderson County.

CALVIN DILLON, BOYS GOLF, SOPHOMORE

 

LHS sophomore Calvin Dillon had quite the week for the Louisburg golf team last week. Dillon won the Frontier League championship Thursday as he carded a season-best 73 to win his first league crown. Two days earlier, Dillon also won the Osawatomie Invitational and was second at Gardner and Spring Hill.

ISABELLE HOLTZEN, TRACK AND FIELD, SENIOR

 

Louisburg senior Isabelle Holtzen made history Thursday at the Anderson County Invitational. Holtzen broke her own school record in the pole vault after she cleared 11 feet, 6 inches to win the event and eclipsed her old mark of 11-1. She also helped the 4×100 team of Kaitlyn Urban, Sydni Keagle and Carlee Gassman to a first place finish, and did the same in the 4×400 with Urban, Gassman and Mikayla Quinn.

CARLEE GASSMAN, TRACK AND FIELD, SOPHOMORE

 

Louisburg sophomore Carlee Gassman put herself on the LHS track record board in just her second meet of the season Thursday at the Paola Invitational. Gassman broke a 29-year-old record in the 300-meter hurdles as she won the event in 47.57 seconds and broke the old time of 48.1. Along with that, Gassman helped the 4×100 relay to a second place finish and also took fourth in the long jump.

BAILEY BELCHER, GIRLS SOCCER, SENIOR

 

Louisburg senior Bailey Belcher is off to a good start for the Wildcat girls soccer team. Belcher scored five goals in the first three games of the season to go along with two assists as she has helped the Wildcats to a 2-1 start. She also finished with a hat trick in the team’s opener against Tonganoxie.
