BAILEY BELCHER, GIRLS BASKETBALL, SENIOR

 

Louisburg senior Bailey Belcher helped the Lady Cat basketball team to a big win over Paola on Friday in their regular season finale. She finished with a team-high 11 points to go along with six rebounds and three steals. For the week, Belcher averaged 12.5 points a game, with six rebounds and three steals in the two contests.

TUCKER BATTEN, WRESTLING, SENIOR

 

Louisburg senior Tucker Batten was one of six Wildcat wrestlers to qualify for the Class 4A state tournament following Saturday’s regional tournament. Batten will make his first trip to state after he finished third in the 138-pound weight class. He finished the tournament with a 3-1 mark and has posted a 30-12 record on the season.

RYAN ADAMS, WRESTLING, SENIOR

 

Louisburg senior Ryan Adams made his last Frontier League Tournament a memorable one Saturday. Adams won his first league title at 145 pounds with a 6-0 record over the 2-day tournament, including four pins and a technical fall. He also helped the Wildcats to a second place league finish in the process.

MADILYN MELTON, GIRLS BASKETBALL, FRESHMAN

 

Louisburg freshman Madilyn Melton didn’t look like a first year player during the Lady Cats’ game with rival Paola last week. Melton led the Lady Cats with 21 points and 11 rebounds as she helped Louisburg to a 69-57 win over the Panthers. It was Louisburg’s first win over Paola in four years.

Louisburg senior guard Isabelle Holtzen gave the Lady Cat basketball team a nice scoring punch this past week as she led Louisburg with 13 points in a win over Anderson County on Saturday at the Top Gun Tournament. Holtzen also scored a team-high 12 points earlier in the week in a loss to state-ranked Piper.

Louisburg senior Ben Minster helped spark the Wildcat boys basketball team to a 72-40 win over Bishop Ward on Saturday in the Baldwin Invitational. Minster scored a team-high 24 points and had six rebounds and six steals against Ward, a day after scoring 20 points in a loss in the consolation semifinals to Harmon.

BLUE CAPLINGER, WRESTLING, JUNIOR

Louisburg High School junior Blue Caplinger had a big week on the wrestling mat last week. Caplinger has won nine straight matches that included two tournament championships (Louisburg and Topeka) and an upset win over the No. 3-ranked wrestler in Class 6A from Gardner-Edgerton. Caplinger is currently ranked No. 6 in Class 4A at 160 pounds.

Louisburg High School senior Thad Hendrix couldn’t have asked for a better way to go out in his final Wildcat Classic. Hendrix finished his home tournament with a 5-0 record, including a pair of come-from-behind victories and a pin in his finals match to win the 106-pound class. Hendrix also helped the Wildcats to a second-place team finish.

Louisburg freshman Cade Holtzen is off to a great start to his high school wrestling career and it continued Saturday in Tonganoxie. Holtzen went 5-0 with a pair of pins at 113 pounds to help the Wildcats to a third-place finish at the Randy Starcher Invitational. He is now 14-1 on the season.

CARSON BUFFINGTON, GIRLS BASKETBALL, JUNIOR

 

Louisburg junior Carson Buffington played a big role for the Lady Cats last week during the Wildcat-Bulldog Classic. Buffington averaged 10.7 points and 16 rebounds a game in the Lady Cats’ three contests, including a 20 rebound performance Friday in their win over Anderson County. She also averaged three steals and two assists last week.
