Week 8 Athlete of the Week: Quinn Rigney

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week eight of the spring season, sponsored by Tri-County Termite and Pest Control.

QUINN RIGNEY, TRACK AND FIELD, JUNIOR

Louisburg High School junior Quinn Rigney picked a good time to have his best meet of the season. Rigney won the regional title in the 100-meter dash in 11.07 seconds Friday at the Class 4A regional meet in Paola to qualify for the state meet. Rigney also ran the anchor leg in the 4×400 and 4×100 relays to help them qualify for state as well as they took third and fourth, respectively.

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week seven of the spring season, sponsored by Edward Jones – Craig Holtzen.

TY MARTIN, GOLF, SENIOR

Louisburg High School senior Ty Martin has had a big season for the Wildcat golf team and it got even better Monday when he qualified for the state tournament during the regional at Fort Scott. Martin shot a 92 to finish seventh overall and earn his second straight trip to state. Last week, Martin finished runner-up at the Anderson County Invitational with a 77 and has medaled in every tournament this season.

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week six of the spring season, sponsored by Tri-County Termite and Pest Control.

MACKENZIE SCHOLTZ, SOCCER, FRESHMAN

Louisburg High School freshman Mackenzie Scholtz helped the Wildcat girls soccer team to a 2-1 record last week, including victories over Baldwin and Kansas City Christian. Scholtz finished with three goals and had two assists in the two wins. On the season, Scholtz is second on the team with 18 goals and also has 12 assists as the Wildcats are currently 10-4-1 on the season.

ISABELLE HOLTZEN, TRACK AND FIELD, JUNIOR

Louisburg High School junior Isabelle Holtzen made school history Thursday when she broke a 15-year-old LHS record in the pole vault. Holtzen cleared 11 feet, 1 inch to win the the event at the Prairie View Invitational and beat her previous personal best by more than a foot. The previous record of 11-0 was set by Laura Gjerde in 2002.

CALVIN DILLON, GOLF, FRESHMAN

LHS freshman Calvin Dillon had a busy week with the Wildcat golf team, but it was a good one. Dillon competed in three tournaments last week and finished in the top two in all of them. Dillon won his first-ever tournament at Fort Scott, finished second at the Osawatomie Invitational and then was runner-up at the Frontier League Invitational as he carded a 77 on Thursday in Spring Hill.

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week three of the spring season, sponsored by Edward Jones-Craig Holtzen.

KAITLYN URBAN, TRACK AND FIELD, JUNIOR

LHS junior Kaitlyn Urban had a big day at the Anderson County Invitational last Thursday. Urban won the triple jump with mark of 31 feet, 9.25 inches and won the event for the second straight week. Urban also helped the 4×400-meter relay to a first place finish and was also on the 4×100 team that took runner-up.

Week 2 Athlete of the Week: Allyssa Griggs

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week two of the spring season, sponsored by Louisburg Athletic Club.

ALLYSSA GRIGGS, SOFTBALL, SENIOR

LHS senior Allyssa Griggs came through for the Lady Cat softball team as she helped them to their first two wins of the season – a sweep of Prairie View. In the doubleheader opener Thursday, Griggs hit a solo home run and drove in another run to help Louisburg to a 2-1 win. She also did work on the mound as she pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters. In the nightcap, she added two more hits and came in to get the save, while striking out three more batters.

BAILEY BELCHER, JUNIOR, GIRLS SOCCER

Louisburg High School junior Bailey Belcher scored four goals to help give the Wildcats their first win of the season in a 6-1 victory over Sumner Academy last Thursday. Belcher scored three goals in the second half alone to record the hat trick and help seal the win. The Louisburg midfielder led the Wildcats last season with 33 goals.

JAYCE GEIMAN, SENIOR, BASKETBALL

Louisburg senior Jayce Geiman helped the Wildcat basketball team to their first state tournament Saturday as the Wildcats defeated Fort Scott 64-52 in the sub-state championship game. Geiman led Louisburg with 15 points against Fort Scott and is averaging 10 points per game on the season. The Wildcats will Bishop Miege today in the first round of the Class 4A-Division I state tournament in Salina.

RYAN ADAMS, JUNIOR, WRESTLING

Louisburg High School junior Ryan Adams came away with his first state medal Saturday at the Class 4A Kansas State Wrestling Championships in Salina. Adams, who wrestled at 138 pounds, won his medal round match with a 6-1 decision and eventually finished sixth overall. Adams was one of eight Wildcat wrestlers to advance to the state tournament. Adams finished his season with a 25-10 record.
