Week 10 Athlete of the Week: Brandon Doles

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week 10 of the winter sports season, sponsored by Louisburg Family Dental.

BRANDON DOLES, SENIOR, BOYS WRESTLING

Louisburg senior Brandon Doles put together a strong regional tournament Saturday in Paola. Doles finished third overall at 182 pounds and qualified for state for the third time in his high school career. He missed all of last season with an injury, and missed the first half of this season, before coming back to post a 7-3 record.

Doles opened the regional tournament with a 3-0 decision, before falling to the eventual regional champion. He battled back on the consolation side and eventually wrestled for third. Doles won this third-place match by a 3-1 decision in overtime.

Here is the Louisburg Sports Zone Athlete of the Week for week nine of the winter sports season, sponsored by Dr. Laura’s Orthodontics.

BAILEY HALLAS, SENIOR, GIRLS WRESTLING

Louisburg senior Bailey Hallas made Louisburg history earlier this month as she became the first Lady Cat to earn a Frontier League medal as she finished fourth at 109 pounds at the league tournament in Eudora. This was her second year as a member of the Louisburg girls wrestling team.

Hallas was the lone member of the team this year and saw her season come to an end last Saturday at regionals. Still, the Louisburg senior played a big part of the Louisburg program.

“Although her season ended this past weekend, she’s the first girl wrestler to finish 2 complete seasons,” Louisburg coach Bobby Bovaird said. “She’s the foundation upon which the success of every girl wrestler who competes for LHS will be built. Every record that will be set has begun with her. Every placement that our girls will achieve will be based on the precedent she set.”

ADYSON ROSS, JUNIOR, GIRLS BASKETBALL

Louisburg junior Adyson Ross was a driving force for the Louisburg girls basketball team last week as she led the Lady Cats to a pair of wins over Paola and Ottawa. Ross scored 15 points in each contest and shot better than 50 percent in each game. Against Paola, Ross also had four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

On the road Friday against Ottawa, Ross helped the Lady Cats to a 26 point second quarter in which they held the Cyclones scoreless. She finished with 15 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists.

JORDAN MYNSTED, SENIOR, GIRLS BASKETBALL

Louisburg senior Jordan Mynsted made the most of her week at the Top Gun Tournament last week at Wellsville High School. Mynsted scored in double figures in two of the three games, including a 19-point performance against Jefferson West and 18 points in the tournament opener against Nemaha Central.

Mynsted averaged 15 points a game as the Lady Cats took sixth place overall and also pulled down 15 rebounds and had four blocks. For her efforts, Mynsted was named to the Top Gun All-Tournament Team.

COLE BROWN, SENIOR, BOYS SWIMMING

Louisburg senior Cole Brown had an impressive outing for the Osawatomie-Paola-Louisburg boys swim team in his first meet of 2022. Brown helped the Miami County team to a victory in the five team home meet and won three events in the process.

Brown won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 freestyle and set personal best times in both events. He later joined Colton Prettyman, Cooper Hipp and Sam Johnson to win the 200 freestyle relay. Brown also helped 400 freestyle relay team to a second place team finish. Yesterday at Blue Valley Northwest, Brown was a part of the 200 freestyle relay team that earned a state consideration time.

MICHAEL SEUFERLING, SENIOR, BASKETBALL

Louisburg senior Michael Seuferling helped guide the Wildcats to their first victory since Dec. 10 last Friday when they knocked off Baldwin at home, 75-64. Seuferling had a career night as he finished with a game-high 29 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists.

Seuferling had been one of the team’s go-to scorers this season as he leads the Wildcats with more than 15 points a game and also averages three rebounds a contest.

KAVEN BARTLETT, JUNIOR, WRESTLING

Louisburg junior Kaven Bartlett had another strong performance for the Wildcat wrestling team Saturday during the Louisburg Invitational. Bartlett helped the Wildcats to a second place team finish and found himself in the championship match of the 126-pound bracket.

Bartlett recorded three pins on the day, to go along with a technical fall, to advance to the first place match. Despite getting down early, the Louisburg captain rallied to make it a one-point match, but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to finish second. Bartlett currently has a 14-4 record on the season.

AIDEN BARKER, SENIOR, WRESTLING

Louisburg senior Aiden Barker had a big week for the Wildcat wrestling team and turned out a standout performance during the Randy Starcher Invitational on Saturday in Tonganoxie. Barker won the 195-pound weight class with a 5-0 record and all five victories came by pin.

Barker is off to a good start in his final season with the Louisburg program. He is currently 13-1 on the season and is ranked No. 4 at 195 pounds in Class 4A.

MAVERICK ROCKERS, SENIOR, BOYS BASKETBALL

Louisburg senior Maverick Rockers was a big reason for the two Wildcat wins last week against Burlington and Anderson County. Rockers averaged 14 points a game, three rebounds and two steals as Louisburg earned a victory at Burlington and a win over Anderson County in its home opener.

Rockers really came up big for the Wildcats against Anderson County as he scored a game-high 17 points to help Louisburg to a close 6-point win at home.

ELIJAH ESLINGER, JUNIOR, WRESTLING

Louisburg junior Elijah Eslinger got off to a good start to his wrestling season Friday at the Fort Scott Dual Tournament. Eslinger went 5-0 in his five matches and recorded three pins in the heavyweight division to help the Wildcats to a second place finish in their season opener.

Eslinger came up big in the Wildcats’ dual against Fort Scott. Louisburg was down three points going into the heavyweight match and Eslinger recorded a pin to give the Wildcats the victory.
