Barracudas swim away from Woodson

Louisburg’s Alex Prettyman gets off to a good start in the 50-meter breaststroke for the 15-and-over boys Saturday at the Louisburg Aquatic Center. The Barracudas defeated Woodson 342-188 to win its second straight meet of the season.

The last time the Louisburg Barracudas squared off with the Woodson Sharks was in last year’s South Suburban League finals in which the Barracudas edged the Sharks for the league crown by just 11 points.

It wasn’t quite as close this time around.

Louisburg hosted Woodson, a team out of Raytown, Mo., on Saturday and swam away with a 342-188 victory at the Louisburg Aquatic Center to win its second straight meet to start the season.

The Barracudas had four swimmers that won all five of their events and three others that picked up four victories.

Sabra Brueggen (8-and-under girls), Sydney Keaton (11-12 girls), Meagan Walker (15-and-over girls) and Weston Guetterman (11-12 boys) all captured five first-place ribbons. Emma Prettyman (9-10 girls), Trinity Moore (13-14 girls) and Josiah McCaskill (8-and-under boys) all took top honors four different times.

Brueggen had no problem in her three individual events as she won the 25-meter breaststroke (25.38 seconds), 25 backstroke (20.09) and 100 individual medley (1 minute, 38.15 seconds). She also joined Addy Stohs, Ashley Branine and Hannah Farrington to win the 100 medley relay, while Brueggen, Branine, Macie Baima and Farrington also won the 100 freestyle relay (1:48.12).

Barracudas beat Butler in home opener

Louisburg’s Sabra Brueggen swims the 25-meter butterfly during the Barracudas’ season opener Saturday at the Louisburg Aquatic Center. Brueggen helped the Barracudas defeat Butler 416-56.

The Louisburg Barracudas are considered a dynasty in the South Suburban Swim League.

The Barracudas are in the midst of six consecutive league titles and haven’t lost a meet since 2009. They don’t appear to be slowing down any time soon.

Louisburg kicked off its season Saturday when it hosted Butler (Mo.) at the Louisburg Aquatic Center. In true Barracuda fashion, they won going away, 416-56, to pick up right where they left off a year ago.

Five Barracudas won all five events they swam in. Sabra Brueggen (8-and-under girls), Sydney Keaton (11-12 girls), Madelyn Prettyman (13-14 girls), Kadisyn Kircher (15-and-over girls) and Brayton Brueggen (9-10 boys) all took home five first-place ribbons.

Even more impressive, five more swimmers won four events as they took care of Butler. Emma Prettyman (9-10 girls), Meagan Walker (15-and-over girls), William Goode (9-10 boys), Weston Guetterman (11-12 boys) and Trae Johnsen (13-14 boys) provided the Barracudas with several team points.

Sabra Brueggen began her quest for her five first-place ribbons in the 100-meter medley relay as she joined Macie Baima, Ashley Branine and Hannah Farrington to win in 2 minutes and 11 seconds. The same relay team also won the 100 freestyle in 1:46.

Sabra later went on to win the 25-meter butterfly (20.28), 25 backstroke (20.38) and 100 individual medley (1:36) to complete her five victories.

Keaton also fared well in the 11-12 girls division as she captured victories in the 50 freestyle (33.65), 50 breaststroke (47.19) and 200 individual medley (3:21).

She also helped Madison Quinn, Sarah Minor and Maddie Kelly win the 200 medley relay in 3:03. Keaton also joined Mable Graham, Kelly and Minor to win the 200 freestyle relay in 2:37.
